You get them to …
You get them to associate the word/hand signal and the reward (turkey bits were used in this video) with the desired behavior. When they do the behavior, promptly reward and praise while repeating the name of the trick, e.g., “Good sit!” The goal for you is to just to figure out a way to get them to do the desired behavior. For more complicated tricks, you reward them for their behavior when it gets closer to the ideal form, but do it in an encouraging way as if to say “almost!”
