Out of these 3 dogs which would be best suited for search and rescue training?

5 year old Beagle
1 year old APBT
3 year old Newfoundland

all of these dogs have mastered sit, stay, down, up and are partially scent trained, meaning they will only follow a scent until something else catches their attention

The APBT would be a great dog to train for search and rescue. They are highly intellegent and were originally bred for hunting, not fighting.

Well first of all its hard to choose only one, ut I would go with the APBT because there are so many of them who do not get a chance at a good life.

    I dunno.

Which of them has been OFA’d good or excellent among other health testing and holds the traits that would help them excel?
It’s not a matter of breed necessarily, but you don’t want to put all that time and effort into a dog that’s not going to stand the test of time.

I have a GSD, who based on breed cold have very good potential, but his individual personality would make him a terrible candidate.

I personally wouldn’t use the beagle because if it were to smell something better I think it would much rather go that direction. The newf would be good but they’re more of a water dog. The APBT is a good choice, but the problem would be the people — however maybe the reputation would go down.

the beagle or the APBT both would be good choices. Beagle were also bred to hunt and search. and APBT’s are wonderful dogs for search and resue.

    The ABPT…

It’s the youngest, and as opposed to the hound and the Spitz, I’d go with the terrier.

I would choose the APBT. The beagle might be a good choise if you could train it to follow the sscent only. But, he might be to old.

The beagle because of its great sense of smell and small size.

Probably the beagle or the Pit Bull because they make excellent dogs, Some of the dogs from the “Vick Pit Bulls Pack” lead on to be search and rescue, and dogs that visit hospitals and shut ins.

Newfoundlands make great SAR (Search and Rescue) dogs. Because of their size they can pull a boat or a person from the water and can withstand ice waters if necessary unlike the other breeds.
