I am getting a beagle, and I have heard many different responses for this question, so I am now not sure. Does anyone have any advice?
I have heard that slicker brushes hurt their skin, and also of shedding blades, and the zoom groom
She is about a year old, if that helps
Slickers are used for getting matts out – beagles don’t need them. What works best on breeds like beagles is a hound mitt. They’re great for getting out dead hair, which is what you want, and it feels like a massage to the dog while you’re brushing them. My greyhounds and my son’s beagle absolutely love getting brushed with it!

I’d say a rubber brush. Works well with short haired dogs

ok well a beagle has short hair and isn’t all that thick like a long haired goldnen. so i would stay away from the combs that have like a rack like shape i would actulay just go to the hair brush section and find something that has soft brissels. if you like it then i bet he would too.

Definitely a rubber brush, or a soft natural bristle brush. Beagles have very short hair that can be very coarse, but does not mat. Soft, or rubber brushes feel good, and they will stimulate the oil glands enough to provide your dogs skin with the oils it needs to be healthy.
The only time I’d recommend a shedding blade is if hair is flying off your pup every time he moves! Shedding blades are very difficult to use properly without hurting your dog. If you choose to use a shedding blade, never press hard, only go in the same direction as the hair growth, and never pass over the boney areas, ie. legs, hips, face. This can cause a brush burn or scratch their skin.
Hope that helps! And congrats on your new pup!

Yes, one of the rubber Kong Zoom Grooms (pink or blue) or a regular soft/natural bristle brush. Slicker brushes will cut right through beagle hair and scratch their skin. Shedding blades are recommended for tight-coated breeds like pit bulls and boxers. Beagle hair is more coarse and much like, but not as thick as, labrador retriever hair. Or fur – I use them interchangeably.
While working in PETsMART’s grooming salon, I used the Zoom Groom most often on beagles, hounds, and boxers, and it worked very well on all of them.
