Mini Beagles

Any suggestions for Christmas gifts for my dogs, cats and bunny?

Saturday, November 15th, 2008

This year, most of the people I know want to stop exchanging gifts. We are thrilled at the prospect of not having to shop too much, but do want to get our pets each something kinda cool. We have three dogs, a westie, a beagle and a lab puppy; two older house cats; and a five year old mini rex rabbit. Any suggestions for gifts for them?

(Please understand we do things for people in our community too, and I am not looking to spend a ton of money on the pets, but just looking for some neat ideas.)

Thanks!

For the dogs, you could get a giant rope so that all three can chew on it at the same time.

For the cats, you could get them a new collar, or a nice little Hedy hole, like a cat bed that is a bit like a ball where they can curl up in.

For the rabbit, you could get it a treat ball, you know a ball with holes in it that you fill with treats so they can roll it around and get rewards.

Mini (smaller version) Beagles……Crating help?

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

My husband and I are married 3 years and we do not have children. We really want to get a mini beagle. We recently saw one and just fell in love with him.

I am completely ready for the responsibility….I'm not lazy and am looking forward to spending time outside with him, but I am nervous about our work schedules. I want to crate him, but I don't want him to be alone in the crate for too long. I leave the house at 8am and get home about 4:15pm? My husband could probably get home by 4pm.

Does anyone else out there have their dog crated that long during the day? Any advice about mini beagles or crating them? This is very new to us!

Unless you can get home a couple of times during the day to let the dog out of the crate, I'd discourage ANY puppy and tell you to maybe opt for an adult dog from an animal shelter. There are tons of purebred beagles at rescues and shelters, and if you explain your work situation to the rescue or shelter, they'll be able to hook you up with a dog that will suit your lifestyle. Puppies can't be crated that long and successfully be trained. It's just too long. Good luck!

OH and for an FYI, Beagles are EXCELLENT with children as can almost any breed of dog if they're properly supervised and trained. Beagles bond exceptionally well with their families.
