Our miniature beagle, Coconut and pitbull Romeo playing in the intra-coastal at Anastasia Island State Park by our house. This was actually really exciting, because Coconut, who is now four years old, has never liked the water. She’s nearly afraid of the ocean, but I still take her to the beach. This time, we threw a toy and she and Romeo (who’s always loved the water) chased it for a good hour. What a fun day, despite the clouds!

My dog is very lonely, especially after his tabby cat friend died. Me and my family have decided that we want to get another pet for him to be friends with, but we don’t know what kind to get. It has to be a small dog, around the size of a beagle. If it helps, he is a miniature schnauzer.
I agree with most of the other people in that you should definitely get a dog or cat that has been with a small dog before and is friendly with a small dog. Otherwise get a puppy or kitten that can grow up with the dog.
Also, take your dog with you to meet the new pet (but definitely give the place warning you are bringing your dog along).
There is no guarantee that a particular type or size of pet will be right for your dog. Particular breeds aren’t always as they seem. Someone may say they have had a bad experience with Jack Russells and children, however I have had many Jack Russells in my life and never had a problem. It is how you raise the dog that matters. That particular dog may have just had a bad experience with children when it was younger.
When picking a breed or type of pet the most important things are:
* What type of coat does it have? Do I have time to maintain a long coat or money to get the dog trimmed regularly or will a short coated dog be fine.
*How much exercise does the pet need? Do I have the time to take it for long runs two or three times a day or would a pet that only requires a 10 min walk be more suitable?
*Do I need a dog that will be great around children? Does the dog have an easygoing and tolerant nature?
*Do I mind a dog that barks or howls?
Another Miniature Schnauzer would probably be a good idea as you already know the care requirements of the breed and dogs seem to prefer dogs of their own breed as they can understand them better.
Sorry for the exhaustive answer, but I hope this helps.
