Pocket Beagle

Beagle question????????

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

What are some various types of beagles? When I ask this question I mean things like lemon beagle, pocket beagle. I know there is the 13 inch and 15 inch. But I was thinking beyond that.

No – the breed standard is that there are only two varieties: the 13 inch and 15 inch beagle.

“Pocket” beagles are just sub-standard dogs that are too small and probably poorly bred. A Lemon beagle is just a light red and white color combination.

Here is the link to the National Beagle Club. It has a nice section with color photos of differnet acceptable baegle colors.

Mini (or Pocket) Beagles?

Friday, November 21st, 2008

I am looking into getting a dog that would be a good pet for my 13 month old daughter. I grew up with dogs, and want her to have the same experience.
I was looking into good companions for kids, and came across an article about Mini (pocket) Beagles. I love Beagles, but right now I don’t have a space for a slightly bigger pet… so if a breed of “mini” beagles really exists, it would solve my problems.

Does anyone know anything about this breed? I don’t want to get a puppy from a mill that indiscriminately breeds animals to get “signatures” puppies. I cannot find a conclusive answer on the internet.

Any reputable information that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
Thanks Mighty, good point, actually.
My daughter is very sweet to animals, actually. Her grandparents have dogs, and she just pets them softly and hugs them. She likes to run with them.
Judgerz: Thank you so much. Great answer. I suspected this "mini" beagle thing to be something to be weary of. Our beloved pet passed away last month, she was a rescued dog, and my daughter's best friend. My girl misses her pet, and so do we. I might just get another mutt from the shelter. Our first was wonderful…

RUNT RUNT RUNT!!!stay away from minis pockets tea cups etc..just a cover

pocket beagle(mini beagle)?

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

i had a very small beagle(9inches)in the usa i had her for 14 years and now i live in uk and have found out my dog was a pocket beagle not a beagle…so im desperately looking for a breeder and by the way my dog wasnt a runt or anything the whole litter was small

Sorry but you will find that there is no such thing as a “Pocket” Beagle in the UK.
In the USA, Beagles are accepted in 2 sizes – under 13 ins & under 15 ins.
In the UK all Beagles should be 13-16 ins in height. There were supposedly Pocket Beagles – but that was in the 15th Century.
To find a reputable breeder of healthy pups, contact the beagle club. If you explain you want a small one, you may find a reputable breeder who has a smaller pup they would be willing to let you have.

New girl puppy with a 2 year old boy dog…?

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

So far it seems as if my 2 year old Rat Terrier and my new 3 month old pocket beagle get along. They play and for the most part there are no major issues. I have just noticed that my boy dog likes to like my girl dogs parts… she doesn’t act like she cares, but it kinda bothers me. Is this something that I should try to stop or is it acceptable? Also does anyone have any tips on how to train my new puppy without my older dog getting worried that I am telling him NO? Thanks for any advice!!!!!

This is normal. Make sure they are both fixed (spayed and neutered) when the puppy is old enough.
