Does anybody know where can I get a puppy (rat terrier prefered) for free without adopting.?

I'm looking for a new friend, my last dog died because of cancer. I don't really have alot of extra money to spend on buying and expensive dog, but i was wondering if someone could help me find a great friend at a low cost(under $150.00) or free. types of breed that i prefer include rat terrriers, chihuahuas, beagles, and miniature pinschers.

If you do not have money for an adoption fee than how can you have the money to afford the dog? No reputable shelter/person will give you a dog for a cheap price. Many shelters have adoption fees ranging from 100-250 dollars. Adoptin fee are usually used by shelters to cover inicial cost of care and to make sure that possible owners have the funds to care for the dog. It's a red flag to shelter to hear "I don't have $ for an adoption fee"

Puppies are expensive, vaccination cost hundreds of dollars by the time the dog gets to thier first year. I suggest you rethink getting a pup until you have the money to pay for a simple adoption fee.

Check Petfinder.com and Craigslist.org for local dogs in need of new homes via previous owners and/or rescues & shelters.

i think it is nice that you want a new friend however even though you would be buying at a low cost, you would need to spend some money on all the dog's maintenance, no? surely if you are going to adopt a dog you should give it the necessary vaccainations and check-ups to ensure its health…

u can try local rescue groups, but usually people are reluctant to give dogs to people that arent some what finacially stable. The dog needs regular vet check ups quality food and if he gets sick, or needs to be spayed or neutered they like to know the dog will be taken care of.

I would suggest looking in the newspaper and try petfinder.com if you would like a rescue dog or ask around, I found my puppy through my sister cause she had already gotten her's through a breeder she recommended to me. The beagle of MinPin would most likely be the one you could get for $150. If it is a rebutable person the dog will no be free because they will want to make sure that you will not harm the dog..the equation is the more money you put into the dog = the more time and love you'll give it.

I always tell people that if they have cost concerns they probably can't afford to have a dog. If you don't have the cash for adoption, do you have the cash if the dog needed emergency vet care???

If so, I would spend time looking on craigslist or looking in the newspaper.

even if you don't have a lot of money, I suppose it's better that you take an unwanted puppy than to have some moron drown it or whatever they will do to get rid of it! Look on community billboards (like at the grocery store) I seem to always see puppies there!

    Sorry about your loss.

I don't like how everyone is trying to convience him that he cannot afford a dog. maybe you didn't here him… HE JUST LOST HIS LAST DOG TO CANCER! have a heart. I'm sure if anyone knows about vet bills it's him, maybe that is why he is trying to forgo the adoption fee. He never said he was broke, just not alot of extra money. I bet you he has alot of love to give it. I hate how money rules the world or let me rephrase that, how we as people let money rule the world. Now, i'm not sure of any- but if anyone knows how this man can get a free or cheap pup please let him know!

I don't suggest you get a free dog. It's likely to be sick, as it won't have any vet care. If you can't afford an adoption fee, you can't afford vet care either. You need to be able to afford to get puppy shots (three of 'em), de-wormings, heartworm preventative, rabies vaccination, spay/neuter surgery (please!), toys (please!), food, bowls, collar, tags, leash. If you adopt, the vet care (shots, spay/neuter, de-wormings and vet exam) are taken care of already. There is no such thing as a free puppy. So my answer is no, there is no place you can get a free HEALTHY puppy if you can't afford an adoption fee.

No dog is free. There are vaccinations, feeding, grooming, and general care that needs to be paid for. If you dont have the money, you dont need a pet.

no dog is free. please remember puppies are very expensive, needing shots, spaying/neutering, annual heartworm checks and preventative. Consider looking at a homeless adult dog too-past all of the puppy training etc-no chewing, etc
