Miniature/Pocket Beagles?

Hi, would anybody know where i could buy a minature beagle (or pocket beagle as they are sometimes known) anywhere in ireland please?? thanks very much
Ok Ok!! i REALLY didnt know that a miniature/pocket beagle didnt exist, if i did i obviously wouldnt have asked the question. i am just looking for a small dog for my daughter. thank you to the people who didnt answer sarcasticly by the way!

The minature or pocket Beagles died out in the UK in the early part of the 20th century. I currently have a Beagles that is smaller than the standard but not to the extent of a minature/pocket Beagle. I suppose it is a genetic throwback. Even though they were called minature Beagles they were not all that small.

If you are looking for a dog for your daughter contact some of the reputable breeders in Ireland and you may be able to get one which is on the small side.

Just to clarify to be able to show a Beagle in the UK it must be between 13-15 ins. In the USA they have two sizes for breed standard.

You do get pups that are over 15ins or under 13ins. These are still pedigree Beagles it just means they cannot be shown, it doesn't mean they are not Beagles. The small one I have I can trace it's pedigree back to 1946.

Let me finish your opening statement:

    Miniature/Pocket Beagles… DON’T EXIST.

If you want a beagle, get a beagle. Not a sickly, nasty, badly bred runt.

There are no such things as pocket beagles. They are a scam to get your money.

Beagles come in two sizes, 15 inch and 13 inch. 15 inch beagles are 13-15 inches tall at the withers, 13 inch beagles are 13 and under at the withers. There is no room for "Pocket beagles" which supposedly stand under 12 inches.

Although there is some truth to the myth, since once Queen Victoria had a pack of hounds she called Pocket Beagles. But they eventually died out.

I know exactly where! A puppy mill!!!! Yay!

Really, don’t get one. They sell runts for big money. You’d be supporting something horrid. Just get a normal beagle. They are much cuter and MUCH healthier.

No such breed. Anyone selling them as a new breed is lying. Steer clear. Its highly likely they are a mix and not worth the money they are asking.

Just a warning… minature/pocket = breeding one littler runt x another litter runt = a very sickly and defective litter that is much more likely to health and temperament issues. Avoid anyone who offers you a miniature/pocket beagle as these DO NOT EXISIT and they are just selling you very small, unhealthy regular old beagles.

No such thing…if a beagle isn’t 13-15 inches in height…then its not a “real” beagle

maybe re-evaluate why you want a dog. do you want a companion, or a fashion trend accessory…

add: sorry for my sarcastic reply. on this forum you see alot of dog owners who get a dog and have no idea how to handle one, and the dog ends up abused, euthanized, aggressive, etc.

it will depend what kind of dog that's right for your daughter.
for example, terriers are small dogs, but they require alot of exercise and are usually loud barkers but sometimes they are not, even yorkies, but here try this quiz:

that site doesn't sell or promote anything..its just some simple questions that will help pick out a breed right for your daughter(and you)

A good percentage of all pedigree dogs are a genetic disgrace. Don’t add to the cruelty already going on.
