pocket beagle(mini beagle)?

i had a very small beagle(9inches)in the usa i had her for 14 years and now i live in uk and have found out my dog was a pocket beagle not a beagle…so im desperately looking for a breeder and by the way my dog wasnt a runt or anything the whole litter was small

Sorry but you will find that there is no such thing as a “Pocket” Beagle in the UK.
In the USA, Beagles are accepted in 2 sizes – under 13 ins & under 15 ins.
In the UK all Beagles should be 13-16 ins in height. There were supposedly Pocket Beagles – but that was in the 15th Century.
To find a reputable breeder of healthy pups, contact the beagle club. If you explain you want a small one, you may find a reputable breeder who has a smaller pup they would be willing to let you have.

No such thing as a pocket beagle. Please get your dog fixed. You should be ashamed of yourself for wanting to bring more unwanted dogs into this world. You want to breed a 14 year old dog? What are you thinking! If the whole litter was small, the supposed “breeder” is practicing poor breeding.

There is no such breed as pocket beagles. They are just smaller than a normal beagle. We had someone drop off beagle mix that I think is close to a purebred, but she is very small and full grown. Not a pocket beagle just a small one.

There is no such thing as a pocket beagle it is a term used by back yard breeders and puppy mills to play into the teacup and mini dog fad. Beagles come in 2 sizes 13" which are 13" and under and 15" which are over 13" but not over 15". Your beagle was a smaller 13" Beagle. Please don't buy from anyone selling "Pocket Beagles" find a responsible breeder of 13" Beagles and tell them you are looking for a smaller dog if you prefer the smaller size.

In the AKC, Beagles are judged by 2 sizes.. 13 inches (13 inches or less at shoulders) and 15 inches (between 13 and 15 inches)..

Yours would have been classified as a “13 inch” beagle.

There is no such a thing as a "teacup" or "pocket" anything unless you're referring to what's on sale at the Royal Doulton store. STAY AWAY from any "breeder" selling these undersized, overpriced, sickly runts. Only backyard breeders and puppy millers breed them.

There is no such thing as a Pocket Beagles in the UK. The last litter was born in about 1920 in the UK and are extinct. If you are offered one you are either getting a small Beagle or the runt of the litter.

There are some very good breeders in the UK. I will list a few below for you. Most have websites so you can see what they breed.

    Bayard Beagles
    Dialyne
    Fallowfiled

    Christy O,
If you read the question you would notice that the stated country is th UK that the question refers to. The people who have answered stating that there are no "Pocket Beagles" are UK based. We cannot comment what there is in the UK as we are not there just as you don't know what is happening in the UK.

I have been breeding standard and mini beagles with over 30 years experience. I hate when people state information that just isn’t true about mini beagles. There IS such a breed and if people did their research and wern’t so stubborn they would know this. Mini beagles are under 13″ and can range from 8-20 lbs. The term “miniature” simply means smaller than the standard size. (Toy is any dog 5 lbs and under) Toy and miniature are 2 different things. A standard size beagle is 13″-15″ as recognized by AKC and will range from 25-40 plus pounds. Mini beagles are not “runts” or the result of bad breeding. They are the result of careful breeding to meet a specific demand for smaller breeds. They have no different health issues then the standard size beagle. I have never had a dissatisfied customer and I keep in touch with everyone who has ever purchased a puppy. No one has ever had any health related issues except when their dogs got old 12-15 years which is to be expected with any breed. The key to healthy breeding is to keep all dogs up to date on shots getting regular checkups from a DVM and also keeping the facility clean, your puppies clean, and not cross breeding any animal. My kennel is exceptionally clean and we take excellent care of our dogs with an indoor/outdoor facility. Our dogs are our pets and we charge about half of what you would pay in a pet store. Plus you have the chance to see the parents, inspect our kennel, and you have the peace of mind knowing we will be there to help you. I know there are a lot of animals in shelters but people please don’t disrespect reputable breeders by labeling all of us the same. All of our clients would happily tell you about their mini beagle they have purchased from us and would do so again in the future. People please do your research and don’t base your decison on someone’s opinion rather then factual information. I am not tellling you this in hope that you will buy a dog from me; thats why I havn’t listed a link to my website. Don’t listen to uneducated people. Do your homework and make your own decision. Just because they don’t meet AKC guidlines for the “standard” beagle due to their size requirements doesn’t mean that mini beagles isn’t a breed. or they don’t exist. They are recognized by many other registries including ACA, APRI, Champion Pet Registries, as well as others and I’m here to tell you I have breed healthy mini beagles for years.
