How would a Chiuaua and German Shepard or a small Poodle and Labrador mate?

I read a question someone had written about getting a pocket puggle. I had never heard of one of these so I did a search. After seeing the pug and beagle mix it sparked my curiosity about other purposely mixed breeds. I ran into a labradoodle and a chiuaua/german shepard and was wondering if these mixed breeds mate or if they are artificially insemenated? I know this sounds like a rediculous question but I really am curious. I also saw a place that claims to have the only mini dalmations anywhere….how would they go about making a large dog a mini without mixed breeding with a smaller dog?

They can mate naturally. It's more common for the smaller dog to be female (and it usually requires a C section at delivery do to the large puppies) but you'd be amazed how good dogs are at getting into position when it is time. Because a dog does not have a fibroelastic penis (one that enlarges and fills with blood in order to erect), the width doesn't change much from dog to dog. (This is probably TMI, so I won't continue…just know that as far as equipment goes, a Chihuahua is not too much different than a St. Bernard).

labrardoodle (mix of standard poodle and labrador)
Puggle (mix of beagle and pug) Mom is usually the beagle and dad is usually the pug
Germand sherpard and chihuahua (im guessing the mom is the german sherpard)
mini dalmations(small dalmations or runts bred with other runts until they are below breed standard.
I do not agree with these so called designer dogs and micro or tiny dogs. They are created by back yard breeders and puppy mills.

The smaller dog (chihuahua) would HAVE to be male otherwise the mating itself would kill it. As far as mini dalmations I have no idea – probably breeding naturally small dalmations only to get a consistently small dog.

Good question. I would guess artificial insemination. The other I have a difficult time imagining. I want to see this mini dalmation.

How to make a mini Dalmatian, they would keep taking healthy runt of the litters and mating them. whatever 2 breeds mix is fine. The mother must be bigger than the other breed.

all of the times that i have seen breeds such as these purposely mated, they have been by breeders who always get a small male and a big female- so that it is the bigger dog (the female) that is supporting the pregnancy. one of my childhood friends, though, had a male mastiff that mated with their small female. labor was too hard for the mother and she had to get a c-section. when i went to see the puppies at 12 weeks old, they had already reached a size MUCH bigger than their 15-pound mother! =]

Responsible breeders who prove their dogs worthy of breeding by titles and fully health test do not cross 2 unlike breeds. I get a kick out of this 'designer dog' fad….. we always called them mixed breeds or mutts. Seems mutts are now the new fad.

Well bred dogs are only ever crossed by experienced breeders who are developing new breeds. These are few and far between.

As already stated you reduce a breeds size by breeding the smallest examples of the breed. The reason breeds have standards is to ensure that the breed is able to do the task or fulfill the role they were bred for.
